Housing Vouchers – Cincinnati

After an amazing Pizza and Provider Friday two weeks ago, our host from Starfire Council has shared with us the steps necessary to take now to get housing for those with disabilities in Cincinnati.

Get Names on the Waiting List now!

As you know, housing vouchers are one of the few ways that rental housing is affordable for people with disabilities. Housing Choice Vouchers subsidize the rent of a private rental unit.  For more information about vouchers,  check out the slides on the DDS website.

The CMHA (Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority) Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List is expected to open soon. This is important because the waiting list only opens every few years.  In order to be considered for a housing voucher through CMHA, interested individuals must put their name on the waiting list when it opens.

If you or someone you know might have need for a voucher during the next few years, NOW IT THE TIME TO ACT!

Debbie Greenebaum (DDS) and Rick Taylor (LADD) are compiling names for the waiting list. Contact Debbie Greenebaum, at Hamilton County DD Services (559-6688) or Rick Taylor at LADD:  (859-803-2030).  LADD partners with Hamilton County DD Services to facilitate the use of vouchers.

They will need the following information in order to place a name on the waiting list: name, address, DOB, and Social Security number.

You may also contact Deb or Rick in order to confirm that a name is on the list.

You have nothing to lose by placing a name on the waiting list.  If/when the name comes to the top of the list, the person will be contacted to determine their interest and eligibility.  If the person is not interested at the time, they can simply say so.

Please pass this information along to advocacy groups, parent/family groups, and others who may have an interest in this.

Home Think Tank will be updating its members about  CMHA Housing Choice Vouchers at its next meeting on October 14 at 1:00 at the Queensgate location of Hamilton County DD Services.  All who share an interest in affordable and accessible housing are welcome to attend.
